Stringer

One of the long boards (usually three) that a stringer pallet's deckboards are nailed to.

Last reviewed October 27, 2026. How we check facts

On a 48×40 stringer pallet, the stringers run the 48-inch length. Notches cut into the outer and centre stringers let forklift forks enter from the sides, which is called partial 4-way entry.

Cracked or broken stringers are the most common structural fault in used pallets, and stringer repairs define much of the difference between recycled grades.
